6 czerwiec 1944r.
Lądowanie w Normandii – wstę pna faza Operacji Overlord, druga największa w historii pod względem użytych sił i środków operacja desantowa podczas II wojny światowej, mająca na celu otwarcie drugiego frontu w zachodniej Europie. Operacja rozpoczęła się 6 czerwca 1944 pod dowództwem gen. Eisenhowera. Miała ona stanowić początek końca III Rzeszy. W trakcie operacji około 3 miliony żołnierzy zostało przetransportowanych z wybrzeży Anglii do Normandii. Trzon tych sił stanowiły wojska amerykańskie i brytyjskie.
